Tangier – Jerusalem children were introduced on Thursday (August 20, 2026) to various facets of Morocco’s rich cultural heritage as part of an educational program hosted by the Grand Tangier Foundation. The activity was held during the second phase of the 17th edition of the “Manaret Al-Salam” (Lighthouse of Peace) Summer Camp, organized by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency (BMAQ) under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The program featured an authentic Moroccan bridal ceremony, during which the Jerusalem girls donned traditional attire, including caftans and takchitas, and took part in henna application and bridal crown-decorating activities. They also enjoyed the lively rhythms of a traditional wedding procession, accompanied by performances by a Marrakech Dakka ensemble and a mountain ghaita group, in a vibrant festive atmosphere.
The boys, meanwhile, gathered at the “Youth Meeting” Center in the Kasbah quarter of the Old City, where they wore Moroccan national football team jerseys as a symbolic gesture by the organizers. They then took part in chess, table tennis, billiards, and other team games, promoting cooperation and team spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, Sam Al-Araj, Head of the “Manaret Al-Salam” delegation of Jerusalem children in Morocco, said that traveling across different parts of the Kingdom had given the children a deep appreciation of Morocco’s grandeur, history, and achievements. He particularly praised the values of freedom, generosity, dignity, and hospitality they had experienced throughout their stay and in their interactions with the Moroccan people.
He added that the children had renewed their gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for this “generous gift,” which, he said, would remain deeply engraved in their memories.
Participating children Amar Zaghra and Youssef Tounsi likewise expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome extended to them throughout their visits to different parts of Morocco, conveying their thanks to the Kingdom and His Majesty the King for the High Patronage bestowed on the camp.
The program also included a visit to a Tangier amusement park, where the children enjoyed a variety of attractions, including roller coasters, carousels, arcade games, and inflatable water rides, in a fun-filled atmosphere.
The day’s activities provided a meaningful social and human experience, fostering interaction and mutual understanding while reinforcing the values of friendship, solidarity, and peace embodied in the name of this year’s camp, “Manaret Al-Salam.”
The Jerusalem Children’s Camp, launched in 2008 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, is one of BMAQ’s flagship annual social and educational programs. It aims to develop children’s skills, broaden their cultural horizons, and promote cultural exchange and interaction with their Moroccan peers.
