Tangier – On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Jerusalem children took part in a sports tournament in Tangier, competing in mini-football for boys and basketball for girls at the Aziaten Sports Hall alongside their Moroccan peers. The event was organized as part of the second phase of the 17th edition of the “Manarat Al-Salam” Summer Camp, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, and running through August 26.
The Jerusalem boys formed three mini-football teams to face Moroccan counterparts from the “Inter Tangier,” “Areej Tangier,” and “Union Ain Hayane” associations, while the Jerusalem girls’ basketball team took on the “Ajial Al-Tadamon” team.
The tournament offered a valuable opportunity for the Palestinian children to strengthen their bonds with their Moroccan peers, showcase their talents and sporting skills, and embrace the true spirit of sportsmanship. It also highlighted the role of sport in shaping children’s and young people’s character and instilling values of hard work, perseverance, generosity, and fair play.
Following the competitions, the children set off on an open-top bus tour of Tangier, taking in some of the city’s most prominent landmarks, including the Villa Harris Museum and the Tangier International Zone, Perdicaris Park, Cap Spartel, and Hercules Cave. The tour also took them to the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, where they enjoyed the spectacular coastal scenery.
Today, Wednesday, the children are visiting the picturesque mountain city of Chefchaouen, an important stop on the camp’s programme. The visit offers them an opportunity to discover the city’s rich historical heritage and enjoy its breathtaking mountain scenery, before rounding off the day with evening recreational activities at the amusement park in Tangier, “Manar Park”.
The Jerusalem Children’s Camp, launched in 2008 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, is one of the Agency’s flagship annual social and educational programmes. It seeks to nurture children’s abilities, broaden their horizons, and foster cultural exchange and meaningful interaction with their Moroccan peers.
