Rabat – the Al-Quds Committee, for the initiative benefiting Jerusalem’s children and students. She described the summer school as “a rich and valuable experience” that would enable the children to become “beacons of peace” upon their return to Palestine and share their newly acquired knowledge and skills with others.
The Jerusalem children, for their part, expressed their gratitude to the King and their enthusiasm for taking part in the program, highlighting the opportunity to discover Moroccan culture and exchange knowledge and good practices with their Moroccan peers.
The summer school continues today, Friday, with presentations and competitions organized by the “Hayya” platform team. The children are divided into five teams—Olive Trees, Palm Trees, Lighthouse, Atlas and Scales—with 20 participants in each. Activities include a key-hunting challenge, writing wishes to display on a “Lighthouse of Peace” model, paper-based competitions, rehearsals for the story “The Arrogance of Air,” and digital competitions through the “Hayya” app.
The activities seek to strengthen fraternity, unity and teamwork, foster pride in Moroccan and Jerusalemite identity and hope, and develop critical thinking, patience, observation and self-confidence, while also nurturing the children’s acting abilities.
This year’s “Lighthouse of Peace” camp brings together 50 boys and girls from Jerusalem, aged 11 to 14, alongside supervisors from the city. Before travelling to Morocco, participants completed a preparatory program in Jerusalem featuring sports, artistic, cultural and educational activities.
Since the summer camps program was launched in 2008, 850 children from different neighborhoods of the Holy City, accompanied by 85 supervisors, have benefited from the initiative. They have visited various parts of Morocco and experienced firsthand the depth of Moroccan solidarity with the Palestinian people.
