Jerusalem – On Monday, the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency (BMAQ) carried out its medical support initiative for Arab hospitals in Jerusalem, aimed at bolstering the resilience of the city’s healthcare sector. The event was attended by Mehdi Bouanan, Morocco’s Deputy Ambassador to Palestine.
The project’s support reached several key institutions, including Al-Makssed Islamic Charitable Hospital, Augusta Victoria Hospital (Al-Muttala‘), the Red Crescent Hospital in Jerusalem, the Arab Health Center, and the clinics of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The delivery consisted of medical supplies, medications, and oxygen cylinders designated for the surgery and emergency departments of Jerusalem’s Arab hospitals.
On this occasion, the Moroccan Deputy Ambassador highlighted that “BMAQ, as the operational arm of the Al-Quds Committee chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, consistently carries out its impactful and commendable initiatives across multiple sectors, with a special focus on healthcare in Jerusalem.”
Bouanan stated that the Agency delivered today a new batch of medical supplies, fully funded by the Kingdom of Morocco, to support the emergency and surgery departments in Arab hospitals in Jerusalem. He explained that “this ongoing support aims to strengthen the resilience of the Jerusalem health sector and ensure the continuity of medical and treatment services for residents, within strategic partnerships with Arab hospitals in the Holy City.”
For his part, Dr. Adnan Farhoud, Deputy Director General of Al-Makassed Hospital, expressed his deep appreciation for the support provided by the Kingdom of Morocco—government and people—to the health sector in Jerusalem.
He stated that “this latest shipment of support will play a direct role in saving numerous lives and enhance the hospital’s capacity to continue carrying out its humanitarian mission.”
Dr. Dawoud Abdeen, Administrative Director and Project Manager at Al-Makassed Hospital, said that “BMAQ has implemented many vital projects over the past years, including supporting Gaza residents stranded in Jerusalem during the war by providing accommodation and basic necessities until they were able to return.”
Abdeen added that the newly received batch of essential medical supplies constitutes a key pillar in ensuring the continuity of the hospital’s services, especially given the significant financial challenges it faces.
For his part, Dr. Nihad Id’ees, Medical Director of the Red Crescent Hospital, expressed his deep appreciation for Morocco’s continuous support of the health sector in Jerusalem.
Id’ees emphasized the crucial role of BMAQ and the Moroccan Association for Reconstruction Support in Palestine, noting that their generous annual assistance directly enhances the hospital’s capacity to maintain operations and deliver high-quality medical care to the residents of Jerusalem.
Mahmoud Alayan, Administrative Director of the Red Crescent Hospital, underscored the significance of BMAQ’s support, especially in supplying the hospital with critical and urgent medical materials.
He noted that since 2006, the Agency has consistently provided annual support for emergency medical supplies that directly contribute to saving lives and ensuring the continuity of health services in Jerusalem, in addition to offering humanitarian services to residents of the West Bank and Gaza.
Dr. Kholoud Al-Ashhab, Director of the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services at Augusta Victoria Hospital, stated that BMAQ’s support today, benefiting patients coming from both the northern and southern West Bank, is a humanitarian gesture they deeply value. She confirmed that the assistance will be utilized across multiple hospital departments to serve the patients effectively.
Dr. Ahmad Sorour, Director of the Arab Health Center, praised BMAQ’s continuous efforts in supporting the center over the past twenty years through various projects.
He highlighted that the Agency has made a lasting and tangible impact on the continuity of the center’s operations—including two clinics in Bab Al-Sahira and Al-Eizariya, as well as two clinics within the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque—and on enhancing its services, significantly benefiting both Jerusalem residents and visitors to Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It is noteworthy that BMAQ, operating under the Al-Quds Committee chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has played a central role in providing Jerusalem’s hospitals and health centers with medical supplies, medications, and modern equipment, thereby enhancing their capacity to meet the city’s growing healthcare demands.
