New York – HM King Mohammed VI affirmed that a just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian cause cannot be envisaged without a serious and responsible approach to the issue of Al-Quds Asharif, given the strong symbolism and high sensitivity of the Holy City.
His Majesty stated, in a message addressed to Mr. Cheikh Niang, Chair of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People—observed this year on 25 November—that in recognition of this dimension, he continues, in his capacity as Chair of the Al-Quds Committee under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC), to exert tireless efforts to safeguard the city’s authentic civilizational character, preserve its legal status, and protect the sanctity of its Islamic and Christian holy sites. This is achieved through a combination of diplomatic action and fieldwork, embodied particularly in the social projects implemented by BMAQ.
His Majesty expressed Morocco’s firm and unwavering commitment to defending the Palestinian cause and supporting international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive solution, considering it “the cornerstone for establishing the foundations of peace and stability in the Middle East.”
He noted that over the past two years, the Palestinian people have endured catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, affirming that since October 2023, Morocco has responded to this humanitarian disaster through five operations delivering urgent aid to Gaza, including food supplies, water, medicines, and medical equipment.
His Majesty also recalled the most recent operation, an “air bridge” through which nearly 300 tons of aid were delivered via an unprecedented land route.
With regard to recent developments, King Mohammed VI welcomed the new ceasefire agreement in Gaza, expressing hope that all its provisions would be implemented in a way that alleviates the suffering of the Palestinians and allows for the launch of reconstruction efforts.
His Majesty also commended the intensive diplomatic efforts that led to the agreement, noting in particular “the personal involvement of U.S. President Donald Trump,” as well as the role of international mediators.
His Majesty affirmed that any international effort to achieve lasting peace must be based on five essential pillars, most notably: the unity of the West Bank and Gaza Strip under the supervision of the Palestinian National Authority; supporting President Mahmoud Abbas and strengthening the structures of the Palestinian Authority; lifting restrictions on the Palestinian economy; supporting Palestinian reconciliation under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization; and launching serious negotiations within a defined timeline to establish a viable Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Majesty, in his capacity as Chair of the Al-Quds Committee, reiterated his rejection of Israel’s “unilateral and provocative” measures in the holy city, including repeated violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
He warned that the continuation of such practices could lead to a “cycle of religious conflict that threatens the entire region.”
He also drew attention to the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, where settlement expansion and repeated attacks are “undermining the material basis for the two-state solution.”
His Majesty affirmed that the recent wave of international recognitions of the State of Palestine reflects a growing global conviction that there is no alternative to the two-state solution, recalling that Morocco hosted, in May 2025, the fifth meeting of the International Coalition to Implement this Solution.
King Mohammed VI concluded his message by reaffirming Morocco’s readiness to “actively engage” in efforts aimed at reviving the peace process, calling on the UN committee to continue mobilizing international support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
