Jerusalem – On Tuesday, the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency (BMAQ) supported the Elderly Club of the Our Lady of Al-Bishara Charitable Greek Catholic Society, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, by providing sports equipment and tools to help implement health and recreational programs for elderly women enrolled in the club.
Tania Awad, Executive Director of the Our Lady of Al-Bishara Society, confirmed that the club includes about 55 elderly women from various neighborhoods of the Old City, offering them multiple activities including sports and laughter therapy workshops.
Awad noted that the long-awaited sports equipment was finally made available through the generous support of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, and BMAQ.
Bianca Turgeman, supervisor of the Society’s sports program, explained that the club brings together around 60 women from within Jerusalem’s Old City. They meet weekly to take part in a wide range of activities, including educational lectures, nutrition and arts classes, sports sessions, and psychological support gatherings.
Turgeman added that sports are particularly vital for elderly women, as they strengthen both physical and mental well-being while fostering independence. She noted that with the new equipment, training will now be more effective and of higher quality. She also expressed gratitude to the Agency for its generous support, which will help meet the Society’s needs.
This project is part of a broader series of initiatives carried out by the Agency in Jerusalem, aimed at supporting diverse community groups and reinforcing their resilience within the city.
