Rabat – A new humanitarian initiative was launched on Saturday at the headquarters of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency (BMAQ) in Rabat, aimed at supporting a number of orphans and children with amputations from Gaza.
The initiative was announced during a press briefing attended virtually by the Palestinian Minister of Social Development, Samah Hammad, and in person by Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui, the Director in charge of managing BMAQ ; Mohamed Jamal Idrissi Bouzidi, President of the Moroccan Association for the Reconstruction of Palestine ; the Ambassador of Palestine to Morocco, Jamal Al-Shoubaki; as well as several members of the Arab diplomatic corps accredited in Rabat, and other notable figures.
The initiative aims to provide support for 300 children with limb amputations, out of a total of 800 Palestinian children registered with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as well as 500 orphans as part of the Orphan Sponsorship Program in Al-Quds, which has been run by BMAQ since 2008.
The initiative also includes the establishment of a psychological care clinic to follow up with cases registered on the Agency’s lists, staffed by volunteer Moroccan and Palestinian specialists.
This urgent humanitarian initiative falls within the framework of the ongoing support provided by the Kingdom of Morocco to the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and Gaza, in accordance with the High Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.
On this occasion, Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui and Mohamed Jamal Bouzidi signed an agreement under which the Moroccan Association for the Reconstruction of Palestine is granting three million dirhams to BMAQ tosupport the implementation of this initiative.
In his address, Echarkaoui affirmed Morocco’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause—politically, diplomatically, and through concrete actions on the ground.
Echarkaoui noted that the initiative builds on the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to support Gaza, undertaken in accordance with High Royal Instructions, including the delivery of 230 tons of essential food and water, along with 40 tons of medical supplies to local hospitals through three humanitarian shipments.
He also highlighted that during the recent holy month of Ramadan, BMAQ launched humanitarian initiatives in Palestine that delivered urgent aid to Jerusalem residents. These included over 3,300 food baskets, 30,000 daily hot meals, 4 tons of medicines and medical supplies, blankets and mattresses, 50 medical kits, and full equipment for the emergency response and coordination unit at Hilal Hospital in Jerusalem.
For his part, the Ambassador of Palestine in Rabat commended BMAQ’s efforts, carried out under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to ease the suffering of Jerusalem’s residents and reinforce the resilience of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
In turn, Bouzidi expressed the Association’s pride in supporting this noble initiative for Gaza’s children, noting that its engagement in projects across Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza reflects Moroccan civil society’s steadfast commitment to Palestinian resilience and their just cause.
