Jerusalem – The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency (BMAQ), affiliated with the Al-Quds Committee chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, completed on Tuesday the distribution of 3,000 schoolbags and stationery sets across Jerusalem and its outskirts, coinciding with the start of the 2026\u20132027 school year.
\nFunded by the Fez Municipal Council and the Moroccan Association for the Support of Reconstruction in Palestine, the initiative is part of the Social and Economic Back-to-School Program in Jerusalem and supports BMAQ\u2019s commitment to advancing education under its integrated 2027\u20132030 program.
\nThe initiative benefited 3,000 upper-primary and secondary school students from low-income and disadvantaged families, including orphans and children of persons with disabilities.
\nThe distribution reached several areas across Jerusalem and its surrounding communities, including Nabi Samwil, Silwan, the Old City, Wadi Al-Joz, Al-Ram, Jaba\u2019, Damascus Gate, Al-Mazra\u2019a, Herod\u2019s Gate, Beit Hanina, the Shuafat and Qalandia refugee camps, Al-Jadira, Bir Nabala, and Al-Eizariya.
\nSocial activist Samia Al-Kurd said that providing schoolbags and school supplies is an important source of support for students, particularly orphans, amid rising education costs and the financial difficulties faced by some families
\nShe added that the initiative \u201cwill have a significant impact and bring peace of mind to students and their families,\u201d thanking BMAQ for its continued support for Jerusalem\u2019s children.
\nSuzan Taysir, President of the North-West Jerusalem Women\u2019s Association in Bir Nabala, said the Agency\u2019s support for education is particularly valuable given the challenges facing Jerusalemite students. She noted that difficult economic conditions are driving many families to seek assistance as the new school year approache
\nShe explained that the association receives requests from families unable to afford schoolbags and stationery for their children, leading it to seek BMAQ\u2019s support in meeting students\u2019 needs and helping them return to school prepared for the new academic year.
\nTaysir praised the association\u2019s continued cooperation with BMAQ, noting that its support for Jerusalem and surrounding communities extends beyond schoolbags to include a range of programs and activities that empower Jerusalemites and strengthen family resilience.
\nIn northwest Jerusalem, the Al-Jadira Development and Advancement Association received schoolbags and stationery sets for distribution to eligible students.
\nMohammed Akram, Chairman of the association\u2019s board, said BMAQ\u2019s contribution was part of the association\u2019s campaign to provide 1,000 schoolbags to children across the area, which comprises more than 16 Palestinian towns and villages. He stressed that the Agency\u2019s support \u201creaches those who need it most.\u201d
\nHe noted that the association works with BMAQ on various programs and activities, including Ramadan initiatives and summer camps, adding that the area faces economic and social challenges arising from the separation wall, settlement activity, and limited employment opportunities.
\nHe added that providing schoolbags and stationery enables students to go to school with dignity and begin the new academic year prepared, at a time when many families struggle to afford these essential supplies for their children..
\nIn Al-Eizariya, Fatima Faroun, President of the Shorouq Women\u2019s Association, said the initiative came at a crucial time for families as the new school year got underway, describing the schoolbags as practical support amid difficult economic conditions.
\nFaroun praised BMAQ\u2019s cooperation with Jerusalem institutions and Morocco\u2019s continued support for the Palestinian people, particularly in Jerusalem, stressing the importance of sustaining these efforts..
\nEach schoolbag contains essential supplies, including a durable backpack, Arabic and English notebooks, drawing notebooks, pens, writing and colouring materials, a pencil case, and other necessary items.
\nLina Damdoum, a mother from Al-Eizariya, said the schoolbag would help ease the cost of the school year. \u201cWe are facing very difficult economic circumstances, and as I am raising an orphaned daughter, this schoolbag will help ease my financial burden throughout the year,\u201d she said.
\nOn July 15, 2026, BMAQ announced in Ramallah the main components of its integrated 2027\u20132030 program to support education and training in Jerusalem.
